Full Metal Sergeant puts you in charge of a military base as you train recruits for twelve weeks before sending them on a mission.

Each recruit has strengths and weaknesses, they also have traits that will limit their growth like nervous, unstable and fat and they will need a lot of specialised training to get rid of the trait.

To get rid of the trait you will have to put the recruit into the training that is needed, in the above example unstable can get rid of by doing the exercise with intelligence gains which will be certain shooting courses or running exercises.

Every few weeks there is challenges for your men to compete in, some of these are free and some will cost you prestige but being in the top three does bring rewards.

Prestige is important, you need it to build new facilities or upgrade the ones you need to have, and you can change up what you have by selecting any of the four training grounds and pick ‘change training’ or ‘change equipment’.

It will take some time to get every upgrade so that is good news.

Watch the gate for somebody arriving at the base, this person can bring prestige depending on what you decide to do.

One important thing to do is watch stamina and stress, just put your cursor over a recruit to see their stamina and stress, level if they are too tired or stressed, they won’t get training done so put them on Guardhouse duty for a turn.

After your twelve weeks, your men graduate and it is time to send them on a mission, there are five missions to complete, and you can pull out after each one, you gain prestige, but you have to recruit new men, your surviving men can become assistants to you.

Each move in a mission costs you one of your supplies, you can avoid enemy soldiers up to your objective, there are also supplies you can pick up, caves to explore and villages to visit along the way.

If you do get into combat, you can set up your soldiers for combat, cover is good as you don’t want your men exposed but somebody will likely be left in the open.

You start the combat and hope that you don’t lose any men.

Your mission ends if you clear all the stages, you withdraw after a stage or all you men are killed in action, then it is time to train another group of men.

Overall, this game can be played for hours and while it is a slow progression, it is fun.
