This game, Space Station Tycoon was on sale for $1.50 so it had to be brought and tried out, you manage a space station but it is all done from the outside of the station, so you do not see the interior of the station so if you’re hoping for a game that lets you run a station like Star Trek’s Deep Space Nine, it is not this game.
The game is pretty simple, you run a space station and you advance by carrying out objectives like having a certain amount of ships docking at your station.

You can protect your station through the use of shields generators, turrets and lasers against enemy ships and asteroids.
Different weapons have different effects; lasers will destroy asteroids but are less effective against pirates.

You can hire employees, they can be trained, they will ask for wage increases and threaten a strike, they can get into fights with each other too.
A pay increase I was asked for was 54% which is way higher than a normal business or government agency would have.

You can receive visitors from other star systems; to do this you’ll need to set up gates for ships to travel from their system to yours or system to system until they get to you, you can find more locations by expanding, each expansion does cost credits so save accordingly.
There is risk when expanding, you will run into pirates, you can bribe them or go into combat with them.

Police will do inspections on your station, if they find something wrong, they will fine you for it.

After finishing objectives, you level up, get credits and research points, levelling up also means that you get more facilities to build and a new set of objectives to complete until you get enough.
The game does have its quirks, one moment your station is bustling with visitors and the next you barely got a customer then it picks right back up again.
The incubation centre doesn’t seem to do anything, and some buildings have power issues despite having plentiful power, this is because it didn’t want to connect to power like the other buildings automatically do so you’ll have to check and connect manually.
Overall, the game is a good use of time for a couple of hours, thankfully there is life after level advancement because you’ll need research labs etc. to generate the points to get you facilities that level advancement will not get you and those do take some time to get.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
