After playing and enjoying Backyard Baseball ’97, I just had to buy Backyard Soccer ’98 to see if it is just as good and thankfully it was.
Back in the day I was content playing the demo of World Cup ’98 where you could just play as Brazil or France seeing if I could change the result of the previous game.

The Clubhouse is just the same as it was for Backyard Baseball ’97, which is good, you’ll be familiar with the layout in seconds.

Once again, for team name and colours, I went with the Blue Bombers and put my faith in the computer to give me a team that is competitive.

The commentators are back which was good to see with one taking an English approach to the game as you can see by the hat and the cup of tea.

You play the game by mouse control, you can do everything on the one button, or you can divide up the tasks by using both buttons, you can also set the game to be short or long ones.
My first game started the wrong way, I kicked an own goal, but I soon levelled up the scores and then went ahead when they kicked an own goal of their own to make it a 2-1 victory.
Players can slip over when kicking the ball, they can over or under kick the ball, there are fouls and penalties if you want them enabled and the commentary is heard right through the game.

If your team is going well, they will be invited to play in an indoor tournament which takes place during your season which is fun as the ball can bounce off the walls.
I really enjoyed this game, it is hard to know whether I prefer this game or Baseball, for short games, this is the one, for longer, play baseball.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
