Dangerous Derk Interactive is a one-person developer who specialises in bringing retro style racing games to modern gaming.

DDI Rally Championship, Super Retro GP, Speedy 500, Stock Car USA, Short Oval Extreme and DDI Touring Car Championship are on the books at the moment with only Speedy 500 not either the Early Access list or the upcoming list.

The list of games is rather ambitious for one guy to take on, and some games have been neglected which was why I hesitated to buy Speedy 500 but was intrigued by the IndyCar like usage.

First things first, you need a controller to play the game, for those not in the know just plug in an Xbox or PlayStation controller and away you go.

The controller worked really well, there didn’t feel like there was any lag when using it.

If you’re looking for a Daytona USA game but with the 90s IndyCar look and an arcade setting, this game is it.

You got a nice array of different tracks, you can hold it wide open at Speedy Motor Speedway (resembles Indianapolis) and Rockingham Motor Speedway, Nazareth is really challenging and then you got the road courses.

There are four modes to choose from, Race, Hot Lap, Time Attack and Championship.

You have plenty of cars to choose from, but they don’t all become available at once which is nice.

You got to be on your toes with this game, the opposition darts around and you got a time limit like the game Daytona USA, so you got to be fast and consistent.

The cool thing about this game is the last names of the drivers like Andretti, Vasser, Fittipaldi, Dixon, Tracy, Zanardi and more, their first names of course are different that the drivers we know and love.

DDI promises some game updates in the future like pit stops though with all the games on the DDI books, it may be a while before we see them.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
