After covering Backyard Baseball and Backyard Soccer, it was time to cover Backyard Football ’99.

The menu layout is what everybody who has played the previous games have come to expect, a nice simple layout for people to have a play.

Everybody’s favourite commentator Sunny Day is back complete with a new colour commentator, this time it is Chuck Downfield providing comments.

Strategy is simple in this game, you get a couple of sheets of play options either running, passing or punting/field goal.

On offence, press the mouse button to hike and then it is time to play, you move the mouse to where you want to throw and press the button, if you are doing a running play, press the button on where you want your runner to go when they’ve got the ball.
When playing defence, click on the person you want to do the play and then direct them where to go.

As with the other games, you do get all the stats from the basic summary to seeing what players what during the games like tackle count done, yards gained, average yards etc.

Interestingly the game has well-known names in the game like Steve Young, Barry Sanders, Randall Cunningham, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice and more plus all your Backyard favourites.
If you like an uncomplicated football game perhaps for kids or for nostalgic purposes, this is a good one, but it definitely is no Madden 26 etc.
Rating: 4 out of 5.
Tiggy.
